First, I would like to talk about weapons. Playing a rogue can be tricky and understanding the
principles behind main and off-hand weapons can be even trickier. As a rule of thumb, you will
always want to put the weapon with the highest base damage in your main hand. This weapon will be
used for damage-dealing moves, like Ambush and Sinister Strike. The weapon to place in your
off-hand should have high damage to compensate for the dip in damage or have a high DPS rating.
Now, on to combat pointers. If you are still a young pup in the World, then I suggest throwing
daggers. You are best putting bows off until you are around level 36, for they simply aren’t worth
the training costs. At 36 you will begin to find agility bonuses by merely equipping them. Fighting
at low levels will draw more aggressive behavior from other mobs, which in turn, will put you in
sticky situations. That’s why daggers are key. They are an easier means to pull your target towards
you and away from densely populated areas, with the exception to spellcasters. It may be best to
avoid spellcasters early on because they have long range and deal a bunch of damage. When you click
on an enemy, just look for a blue bar under their health bar and you’ll be able to distinguish them
right off the bat.
When hacking down your foes, it’s always good to look before you leap. Keep an eye out for stray
mobs that might be more than willing to help their friends if you start a fight. Stealth is the
best tool when scoping out the area and making a solid plan of attack. In fact at the earlier
levels, stealth will be your best friend if you prefer to solo quests and move through densely
populated areas without being seen.
Stealth is not 100% safe. There are a few rules worth mentioning. While in stealth mode, your
level is weighed against the enemy’s level. If the enemy’s level is higher than yours, they will
have a greater chance at spotting you. Enemies also have a line of site. Being behind them will
help you. Also, how close you are to the enemy is weighed into the equation as to whether or not
you will be spotted by the enemy. Most players agree that if you are properly behind an enemy
during stealth, they will never spot you.
You should also know that certain actions will bring you out of stealth mode, for all to see.
Some of the actions are as follows: examining an item, opening a chest, and searching a corpse. So
knowing when you are visible and when you are not will keep you alive.
Here are a few more things a rogue should know. Never charge into a group of enemies. Leave that
to warriors and tank-like characters. Your role in a party is to deal out DPS--Damage, Damage, and
more Damage. You are a thief in the night. An assassin who would rather stab his foe in the back
than fight him toe to toe. And if the battle is too much for you to handle, use sprint. It’s there
for a reason. You can grab your own Rogue Guide by visiting Warcraft Pros
