Plants are easy to find, plentiful and respawn fairly quickly. Herbalism also seems to be
somewhat less popular than mining or skinning so there tends to be less competition. In order to
collect plants the character needs to have the herbalism skill which can be learned from a trainer
in any main city.
Directly outside of all main cities are the first plants available for collection - Silverleaf
and Peacebloom. At herbalism level 15 the character is able to pick nearby Earthroot. Many players
make the mistake of thinking that these low level plants are not worth anything but that is a
mistake. Players should collect these and all other plants during game play wherever possible. High
level players that change professions often have more gold than time and will pay handsomely for
stacks of low level plants. (In the World of Warcraft a stack is 20 items.) It doesn’t cost
anything to pick them up so it is a wise approach to gather them everywhere.

Picking the plants increases the herblism skill for the character allowing access to more
valuable herbs. Finding the herbs is another trick. Most players use an online site, atlas or some
other reference to locate herbs that correspond with various skill levels. It is important to note
that herbalism, like any other profession, requires periodic training to pick higher level plants
so it is essential to know where advanced herbalism trainers are located. These trainers can be
found using the aforementioned references.
Once the herbs are collected they can be sold in the Trade Channel or the Auction House. Plants
can be sold in their whole state, converted into a potion or sold as a pigment depending on the
profession of the player. With so many uses for herbs it is a good idea to offer them for sale in
the Trade Channel before putting them into the Auction House. This is valuable because it can
enable the player to avoid the cost of doing business with the Auction House. If there are no
buyers in the Trade Channel it is still a valuable and profitable technique to use the Auction House to sell stacks of herbs.
Nevertheless there are some factors to keep in mind when using the Auction House.
Wise players assess the market before putting herbs up for sale. A quick search for any herb in
the Auction House will reveal if there is an opportunity to make a good sale. With this information
players can be sure not to price themselves out of the market by setting their prices too high. If
a search reveals that prices are too low due to an influx of a given herb the player may wish to
sell another day. Selling herbs at the right price is a matter of experience but often means the
difference of five gold earned on a Monday that would have been nine gold earned on Wednesday.
Gathering herbs is an interesting and profitable way to farm in the World of Warcraft. Merely
picking some herbs will temporarily increase a player’s stats or restore health or mana. Exercising
a little patience and using some marketing savvy can provide any player with a tremendous fortune
over time. To learn all of the same tricks and secrets that the pro gamers use to rake in tons of
