WoW Rogue Talent Builds
Talents are one of the most powerful ways you have to customize your
character in World of Warcraft. Whether you want to to be more robust and survivable in a PvP
setting, or do the most damage possible in a PvE setting – talents are one of your most powerful
tools for improving your character. This Rogue Talent Builds guide will
give an overview of each talent tree for newer players, and will get to the nitty-gritty endgame
builds for the more advanced players looking to tweak maximum efficiency.
If you're confused about how to spend your talent points
for your rogue character. You can visit: Ulitmate wow guide where they

class.
The three talent trees, Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety, each have their own strengths.
Depending on your style of play, your gear choices, and how you ultimately intend to use your
rogue; each tree will offer something different.
Assassination
This talent tree focuses heavily on critical strikes, critical damage bonuses, poisons, and
finishing moves. You have talents like Malice, Lethality, Cold Blood, Master Poisoner, and
Puncturing Wounds all increasing your Critical Strike chance or damage. Most talent builds focusing
in this tree are built around the ability Mutilate. Assassination's 41 point talent, Mutilate is an
instant attack utilizing both weapons and buffed by poisons to cause massive amounts of damage.
Several talents in this tree increase the damage of mutilate, including Improved Poisons (50%),
Opportunity(20%) Find Weaknesses (10% after a finishing move), and Improved Kidney Shot (9% after
Kidney Shot). These talents combined can result in nearly a 90% damage increase to Mutilate, which
can be further increased by additional critical strike damage bonus talents.
Combat
This talent tree focuses on many generalized damage bonuses, chance-to-hit bonuses, and the
important Weapon Specializations. Rogues specializing in this talent tree typically use Swords or
Maces, and stick to that weapon specialization. Combat Mace rogues gain an automatic 15% armor
penetration from Mace Specialization, while Combat Sword rogues get a 5% chance to get an extra
attack after hitting their target with their swords. Several of the Combat builds are considered to
be the highest PvE damage dealing builds to-date. More on this later.

Subtlety
This talent tree focuses on survivability, damage avoidance, and buffing your opening moves and
burst damage. These characteristics make it a very strong tree for PvP. Several talents in Subtlety
increase your ability to perform strong opening moves on your opponents and keep them
incapacitated. Such talents include Master of Deception, Opportunity, Preparation, and Shadowstep.
Many of these abilties find far more utility in a PvP setting than they would in a PvE setting –
something to consider when deciding how to build your character.
Common builds, Weapon choices, and choosing your Specs
Generally speaking the most important considerations for choosing a Main Hand (MH) weapon are
weapon DPS and damage range. With current itemization in Wrath of the Lich King, the other dps
stats on most weapons are typically not an important consideration. Beyond that, your playstyle and
talent spec will typically dictate your weapon choices. One of the most common PvE builds is
Mutilate 51/13/7 this talent build uses daggers and has proven potent and reliable in nearly
all PvE settings. Other common PvE builds include Combat Swords and Combat Fists. The only
difference with Fists is taking 5 points from Sword Specialization and putting them in Close
Quarters Combat. As for PvP, almost every build these days includes Mutilate, which will limit your
choices in the Subtlety tree. An example of a common PvP Mutilate build would be 41/5/25 this
build includes key talents like Vile Poisons to resist dispels, Fleet Footed to reduce movement
impairing effects, Deadly Brew for guaranteed Crippling Poison, and the deadly Mutilate in the
Assassination tree. Key talents from Subtlety include Master of Deception and Camouflage so they
don't see you first, Opportunity and Dirty Deeds to help finish off opponents, and the
ever-important Preparation, instantly resetting the cooldowns on all of your important
Rogue talent builds so you're never caught with your pants down!
